"The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character — that is the goal of true education."

Martin Luther King Jr.

As a teacher, my primary goal is to foster critical thinking, promote lifelong learning, and create an inclusive environment where all students feel supported. I aim to help students take ownership of their learning through collaborative projects, group discussions, and short-term goal-setting. Using constructivist and experimental teaching methods, I encourage hands-on exploration and real-world learning while incorporating visuals like images and videos to make abstract concepts more concrete. I focus on building foundational literacy, numeracy, critical thinking, and social-emotional learning skills, ensuring students develop confidence and a love for learning.

To assess student progress, I use formative assessments like quizzes and exit tickets alongside individual and group projects that allow students to showcase their learning creatively. I aim to make homework engaging and stress-free, reinforcing classroom concepts in fun ways. Recognizing diverse learning needs, I differentiate instruction to ensure every student thrives. Continuous improvement is key to my teaching philosophy; I gather student feedback through surveys and maintain a reflective journal to adapt and grow in my practice, creating a dynamic and supportive classroom environment.

My classroom is set up to promote equity and inclusion, reflecting my commitment to culturally responsive teaching (CRT). I actively create an environment where students’ diverse cultural backgrounds are acknowledged, valued, and celebrated. By incorporating diverse perspectives into the curriculum and around the classroom, I ensure that my students see themselves reflected in the learning material, which helps to build a sense of belonging and confidence. By honoring their voices, experiences, and cultural identities, I empower students to become critical thinkers who are not only academically skilled but also socially conscious and compassionate individuals.
